At Mickleham Secondary College, Mathematics teachers use a wide range of data and assessment tools to carefully place students into the course stream that best matches their current level of achievement, learning needs, and future goals. This targeted approach ensures that each student is appropriately supported and challenged, particularly in preparation for VCE pathways. In Mathematics, students are placed into streams aligned with the VCE options where they develop practical and analytical skills through real-world contexts. These include financial literacy (such as loans, investments, taxation, and budgeting), measurement in two and three-dimensional spaces, estimation, and data representation. In more advanced streams, students will also explore matrices and network graphs to model complex scenarios.
Our teachers take care of the placement process for families, ensuring students are set up for success in their senior years and beyond.
This structured preparation is essential, as many tertiary courses require a minimum set study score in Mathematics.
